Mar. 03, 1957 - Britain's newest experimental submarine in London H.M.S. explorer: Visiting the West India Dock is the British experimental submarine H.M.S. explorer. She is 225 feet long and has a squat streamlined conning tower. She is unarmed - and uses high test peroxide in her propulation engines - and is said to have a speed of 25 knots under water. A German experimental team - led by Professor Helmut Walther worked with British designers - when the vessel was being built. The vessel will remain in London for about a week - but the Public will not be allowed aboard her. Photo shows Lieut - Commander L.R. Bell Davies R.N. - Commander of the vessel - aboard H.M.S.
