Jul. 25, 1959 - BRITAIN'S HOVERCRAFT SKIMS ACROSS THE CHANNEL. Britain's Flying Saucer, the Saunders Roe Hovercraft, SR-N1, this morning skimmed across the channel from Calais to Dover in one hour 55 minutes. Test pilot, Lieut. Commander Peter Lamb, was at the controls. The Hovercraft flies on a cushion of air just above the water.
