Mar. 03, 1957 - Britain's Newest Experimental Submarine in London H.M.S. Explorer.. Visiting the West India Docks is the British experimental submarine H.M.s. Explorer.. She is 225 feet long and has a squat streamlined conning tower. She is unarmed and uses high test peroxide in her propulsion engines - and is said to have reached a speed of 25 knots under water. A German experimental team led by Professor Helmut Walther collaborated with British designers when the vessel was under construction. she will remain in London for about a week - but will not be open to the public.
