Aug. 08, 1958 - H.M. Submarined P. 36. Salvaged From Lazarette Creek Malta - After Sixteen Years: H.M. Submarine P. 36 (650 tons) has just been salvaged after laying at the bottom of Lazarette Creek, Malta for sixteen years. She was sunk when 225 depth charges exploded around her - followed by a bomb which exploded close by - making hole in her ballast tanks and hull. Luckily there were no casualties as the crew had taken shelter while the bombs were falling - the sub being in dock. The crew went aboard her again when the air raid had finished - but they could not stop her sinking.Divers later found later that a full scale salvage operation would be necessary to salvage her - an operation put off until now.
