Aug. 08, 1958 - Britain welcomes the Nautilus as she arrives in Portland Harbor: The United States nuclear powered submarine Nautilus arrived at Portland Harbor this afternoon, at the end of her voyage which took her under the North Pole. Thousands of holiday makers gave a great cheer and ships sirens sounded a welcome as the submarine approached the harbor. Photo shows Commander William Robert Anderson, Commanding Officer of the Nautilus gets a clap as he comes ashore from the submarine in arrival in Portland Harbor today
