Aug. 08, 1958 - End Of The Canoe Trip From Avonmouth; 36-year-old businessman, John Whitworth, of Shefford, Bedforshire, arrived at Tower Bridge today by Canoe, after a journey with three companions from Avonmoutgh. The trip resulted from an argument in his Shop at Shefford when three young men stated that once a man is behind the counter her gets fat and lazy - when he accepted a challenge to make the trip. His companions were LAC Brian Herbert, 23 from R.A.F. Chceksands, Barry Bridgman, 23, a research student, and Paul Lawrence, 21, student son of the Vicar of Sheffield. They set out on August 3rd.
