Aug. 19, 1958 - Soviet Anti-Magnetic Research Schooner Arrives At Colombo: The Soviet Research Schooner Zarja (Golden Dawn) arrived in Colombo harbour, Ceylon, recently after a cruise in the Indian Ocean studying the magnetic field of the earth in connection with the International Geographical Year. The schooner is 100% anti-magnetic - without an ounce of iron of steel aboard or in her construction. Even her auxillary motor is made of bronze and other non-ferrous metals. She is in Colombo for refuelling and some repairs - after which she will sail for Vladivostock. Photo shows The Soviet Research Schooner Zarja on arrival in Colombo harbour
