Feb. 26 Giant Boater for The Hatters': Captain of the F.A. Cup finalists, Luton town (The Hatters), Syd Owen, paid a visit to the Luton hat firm of A.E. Olney 7 Co. Ltd. who have made the world's largest straw boater for the Hatters to take to Wembley on May 2nd. The giant hat took a whole working day to make, compared with 18 that are usually turned out in that time. The giant hat measures 3ft x 2ft. 6ins. and contains 180 yards of straw plait. Photo shows Captain of Luton, Syd Owen (centre), holds aloft the giant straw hat, assisted by Michael Olney and machinist Mrs. E.M. Salter, who helped make the hat. She has been making boaters for 39 years
