Sep. 09, 1959 - Nuclear Moby Dick Under Construction British Canadian Submarine Design. A proposed British nuclear powered submarine is now well under way at sponsored by British and Canadian interests. A model has already been displayed, and given the name Moby Dick. The new vessel would be of 50, 000 tons displacement; 607 feet long; 72 feet in diameter and designed to operate initially at 300 feet. The new vessel is designed to play an important role in opening communications to the ice bound regions of Northern Canada and her first cargo will be 28, 000 tons of iron ore. Control of the craft will be in the hands of less than 24 officers and men. The design has been developed by MR. F.G. Mitchell head of a Civil Engineering Company and Mr. W.A.
