Nov. 11, 1959 - Ten Foot Working Model of a Submarine Built in a Bedroom.. It Will Actually Fire Real Missiles. A ten foot long model of a submarine has been built in the attic bedroom of a 38 year old Ministry of supply worker - Mr. David Ashton of Sevenoaks, Kent, at a cost of, 000.. Named Olympus it will be capable of firing missiles and torpedoes while submerged - being operated by remote control. The model was started three years ago - weighs 200 lbs and is capable of diving 15 feet.. It will be fitted with navigational lights and Aldis lamps which will winks out Morse signals - and Mr. Ashton hopes to navigate it from Westminster to Calais in a few months time. An underwater movie camera can be fitted to the deck to film it course. The missiles will be the equivalent of the American Polaris rockets with a range of 300 yards.
