Feb. 26 The end of a brave little ship. H.M.S. Amethyst in Breakers Yard: One of the most famous little ships of the British Navy - H.M.S. Amethyst nears unglorious end in the breakers yard in Sutton Pool, Plymouth. The vessel created a sensation throughout the world when she made her amazing dash down the Yangtze river from a Communist trap in 1949. The vessel had a short reprieve recently when she was used for the filming of Yangtze Incident'.
