Mar. 27 Windjammer-Meeting In Kiel/West-Germany Form 13th to 16th of July 1980 Only less days after the Kieler Woche there is for the capital-city of Schleswig-Holstien/West-Germany a second event, which is solitary in the world for friends of sailing and clippers: To the till now greatest windjammer-meeting in the fjord of Kiel from July 13th to 16th, 1980, about 800 sailing-ships are awaited. Among them are eleven clippers from seven countries. The first event for the visitors is the landing of the Gorch Fock (picture). The sailing-school-ship of the West-German Bundesmarine, is at the present time the most successful windjammer in the world, finished a few days ago the 3175sm long trans-Atlantic-race from Boston/USA to Kristiansand as the first. During the first phase of the race the Gorch Fock reached it's till now best daily output. The clipper commissioned in 1958 and built by Blohm+Voss in Hamburg/West Germany reached in one etmal (12 o'clock till 12 o;clock) a performance of 316sm (585.2 km), this is equivalent to a speed of more than 13 km (24.4 km/h). The highlight of the festival will be the moment in which all clippers, accompanied by a lot of sailing yachts and ships set sail out of the harbour of Kiel
