Mar. 27 Antarctic observation ship becomes an aircraft carrier.: The Japanese Antarctic observation ship Soya 3 (2790 tons) has been fitted with a 156 square feet flight deck on her stern capable of allowing a large Sirkorsky S. 58 helicopter to take off the land. The cost of reconstructing the ship was L. 130.00 (sterling). She will leave Tokyo on Nov 11 for Showa Base, at Ongul Island in the Antarctic. Photo shows Part of the new flight deck of the Soya 3
