Mar. 27 Antarctic Observation Ship Becomes An Aircraft Carrier. The Japanese Antarctic observation ship Soya 3 (2790 tons) which has been fitted with a 156 sq. feet flight deck which allows a large Sirkorsky S.58 helicopters to take off and land. The cost of the reconstruction is L. 130, 000 (sterling), The ship leaves for Showa Base, Ongul Island in the Antarctic on Nov 11 from Tokyo.
