Feb. 29 Help from the sky.: Over 100 miles south of Crete, the three masted sailing schooner Goerlando from Naples was drifting helplessly, with her steering useless. Nearly 100 miles away the Aircraft Carrier H.M.S. Albion, taking part in NATO exercises - sent jet aircraft to find her. Closing to helicopter range -the carrier sent off two engineering mechanics to inspect the damage. Engineer Mechanics J.M. Binstead of Swindon and E. Ferguson of Belfast were landed on the vessel by helicopter - inspected the damage. While Binstead stayed on the vessel - Ferguson flew back to the carrier to make a new steering gear part in the carrier workshop. The part was replaced in the steering gear - and the ship continued on her way. The ship crew were supplied with rations from the Carrier - as their own had run out.
