Lone Yachtsman Alec Rose Given Hero's Welcome in Melbourne. 59 year old Mr. Alec Rose, the Portsmouth greengrocer, was given a big welcome when he arrived in Melbourne last Sunday, after his 14, 500 mile, five months lone voyage from Britain in his 32ft. ketch Lively Lady'. Among those waiting to welcome him was his Merchant Navy Officer son, Michael, aged 32, who lives in Australia and last saw his father seven years ago. With Michael was his wife and two little sons. After staying with Michael and his family in Williamstown, Melbourne, for a month, Alec will start the return voyage to England via Cape Horn. Back in Portsmouth, England, Alec's wife, Dorothy Rose, 54, said: This is a wonderful day. I'm immensely proud of him'.
