Mar. 27 Captain of Japanese Observation Ship For The Antarctic. Captain Mitsuji Matsumoto, who is in charge of the newly re-constructed Soya 3 Antarctic observation ship which is now has a 156 sq. foot flight deck fitted to her stern. On Nov 11th he will cast off from Tokyo Docks on his long trip to the Antarctic heads for Show Base on Ongul Island. There the ship will become locked in the ice until spring but the helicopters the ship carries will fly men, dogs and supplies to the Japanese explorers
