Mar. 16, 1960 - Dame Pattie Menzies launches Britain's Newest liner. The Canberra': Dame Pattie Menzies wife of the Australian Prime Minister this afternoon launched the 45, 000 ton Canberra - Britain's newest liner for the London - Sydney route - P. and C. line. With her speed of 27 knots she will out the time for the journey from 31 to 25 days. She will carry 2, 235 passengers -cist ?15, 000, 000 to build - has 15 decks - and is 830 ft. long.
