Mar. 03, 1960 - Dame Pattie Menzies Launches Britain's Newest Liner.: Dame Pattie Menzies wife of the Australian Prime Minister this afternoon in Bel launched the 45, 000 ton Canberra-Britain's newest liner for the London - Sydney route (P. and 10 line) With her speed of 27 knots she will cut the time for the journey from 31 to 25 days. She will carry 2, 235 passengers - cost £15, 000, 000 to build - has 15 decks - and is 830 ft. long.
