Mar. 03, 1960 - Dame Pattie Menzies launches Britain's newest Liner.: Dame Pattie Menzies wife of the Australian Prime Minister - this afternoon in Belfast launched the 45, 000 ton Canberra - Britain;s newest liner for the London - Sydney route ( p. and O. line). With her speed of 27 1/2 knots she will out the time for the journey from 31 to 25 days. She will carry 2, 235 passengers - oist £15, 000, 000 to build - has 15 decks - and is 830 ft. long.
