Jun. 06, 1961 - THE ESMERALDA GETS A BIG SEND OFF. Thousands of people crowded Sydney Harbour, Australia, to give a rousing send-off to the 308ft. long Chilean training ship, Esmeralda. The lovely white ship was escorted by everything that would float, racing yachts, cabin cruisers, fiber glass runabouts, grimy trawlers and even surfboards. Keystone Photo Shows:- Up on the mainyard, the top and the royal, middies of Esmeralda complement sway on the footropes ready to cast off the gaskets and shake out the foremast sails
