Boats - Sailing - Ships
Jun. 06, 1961 - Down To The Sea In Ships: Thousands of people crowded Sydney Harbor, Australia, to give a rousing send-off to the 308 ft. long Chilean training ship, Esmeralda. The lovely white ship was escorted by everything that would float, racing yachts, cruisers, fiber glass runabouts, grimy trawlers and even surf boards. Photo shows This was the scene as the Esmeralda headed for the sea with all 26, 910 sq. feet of sail all set, and all hands on deck, with some of the hundreds of small craft which escorted her churning up an intricate pattern of white wake
