Jul. 07, 1962 - Flying Crab Hovercraft begins Passengers Service: Hitory was made yesterday when the 11 ton 24 seater Vickers Armstrong 3 Hovercraft completed the 19 mile stretch between Wallasey and Rhyl acros the Dee estuary in half an hour at a speed of nearly 70 mph. Looking like some giant flying crab it took the first passengers for £2 return. The service is for 8 weeks, 6 days a week, six time a day. 4, 000 tickets out of a possible 14, 000 have been sold already. Holiday - makers will save ip to1-1/2 hours on the journey.
