Dec. 12, 1962 - Britain's first nuclear submarine puts to sea: H.M.S. Dreadnought, the first nuclear submarine to join the Royal Navy put to sea yesterday for the first of her sea trials. She left her moorings in Barrow in Furness, Lancs, and slipped into the Irish Sea for the trials which are to last for 24 hours. The £20, million vessel suffered set-back earlier when one of the fuses in the communication system blew. Photo shows H.M.S.
