Dec. 12, 1963 - 919 Saved From Lakonia: Of the 1, 036 passengers and crew of the Christmas cruise liner Lakonia, ablaze in the Atlantic Ocean, about 180 miles North of Madeira, 919 have been rescued, and 18 are known to have died, and 99 are unaccounted for.
