Feb. 27, 1964 - 27.2.64 The Ship with the controversial bottom A recent arrival at the London docks is the new Japanese cargo ship the Yamshiro Maru which has completed her maiden voyage from Kobe. The ship, which was built by Mitsubishi of Nagasaki, has a broad beam, a bulbous bow, and a slender stem and stern. The builders claim that these characteristics which have been developed after years of research, give her more knots on less fuel than a convention ships hull. British experts claim that the Yamashiro Maru is no more efficient than a similar ship, The Benloyal, built on the Clyde five years ago. Photo Shows: The Yamashiro Maru in London today
