Mar. 03, 1964 - Salvage Work Begins on the East German Cargo Ship Magdeburg Broadness point near Gravesend The crew of an East German tug have begun work salvaging the Magdeburg, the 6, 629 ton East German cargo vessel which has been lying on her side since October 27th, when she was in collision in the Thames with a Japanese cargo ship in dense fog. The Magdeburg was carrying a cargo of buses, worth 30, 000 which were bound for Cuba.
