Jan. 01, 1964 - Boring into the ocean bed- 15, 000 feet below.: The British surey ship H.M.S Vidal is returning to this country after having made a four month survey cruise in the South Atlantic. The Oceanographical survey has been carried out along four latitudes between West Africa and the West Indies, using a new precision depth recorded, stopping at selected stations taking water samples and temperature at various depths, while core samples, some nine feet in length, were taken from the ocean bed, at photographs using a special camera and flash equipment were taken of the ocean bed, thus giving a complete detailed profile'.
