1964 - Hydrofoil has trial run in the channel: Showing its paces around the Channel Islands yesterday was the British Isles first passenger carrying hydrofoil which power craft that skims over the water on metal skis which is coming into service on Friday between Guernsey and Jersey in the Channel Isles. and Jersey and St. Malo in France. The 140 seat hovercraft which at times reaches 40 m.p.h. is capable of skimming over rough seas that would make a conventional ship unbearable. Fares for the run on the hydrofoil between Guernsey and Jersey are £2.5s. which is a little cheaper than the air fare for the trip, and although yesterday's trip took an hour, because of heavy seas, it will normally complete it in about 45 mins, as against the three of four hours of a conventional craft.
