Liner ORIANA (40, 000 tons) is now at Southampton preparing for her maiden voyage to Australia and North America..The ORIANA is the biggest passenger liner ever to be launched in England-and coast 4, 000, 000. She will be commanded by CAPT. CLIFFORD EDGECOMBE-and is said to be the most up-to-date passenger liner in the world today. All loading and unloading is bypush-button controlled elevators-and she is fitted with a remarkable automatic pumping system which-by forcing water through the ship from one side to the other-below the water line-enables her to be eased in to any quay-in any part of the world without the aid of tugs. She is also fitted with complete TV system-at whichever country she visits-besides having her own closed circuit system.
