Feb. 02, 1966 - Britain Develops a Whispering Hovercraft for Ferry Operations. Government supported research has solved the noise problem which has been the threat to the development of the Hovercraft as land and sea transport. Britten Norman of the Isle of Wight have produced and air jet propulsion system powered by a Rolls Royce engine. It avoids propellors and makes no more noise than the purring of a motor launch.
