Oct. 10, 1962 - First Missile Destroyer Nears Completion: The Royal Navy's first fully anti-atomic ship, the super destroyer HMS Devonshire, is in Birkenhead after undergoing extensive trials in coastal waters. Devonshire, 5, 000 tons, carries Seaslug and Seacat anti-aircraft guided missile equipment. She will be commissioned next month.
