Dec. 12, 1964 - Salvage Work Begins On The East German Cargo Ship Magdeburg off Broadness Near Gravesend. The crew of an East German tug have begun salvage work on the Magdeburg, the 6, 629-ton East German cargo vessel which has been lying in her side in the Thames since Oct. 27th, when she was in collision with the Japanese cargo vessel Yamashiro Maru in dense fog. The Magdeburg was carrying a cargo of buses, worth £330, 000 which were bound for Cuba.
