Boats - Sailing - Ships
Aug. 08, 1965 - By Schooner To Australia: Three girls and 19 men yesterday set off from Ramsgate, Kent, in the schooner New Endeavour, to sail to Australia, and almost ended up on the Goodwin Sands. After about an hour, with barely five miles of the journey to the other side of the world completed, the engine broke down. The schooner began to drift towards the Goodwins. A rescue boat from Walmer, Kent, went to their aid and helped them get back on course, with Lisbon the first port of call. Photo shows The three girl members of the crew on board the New Endeavour at Ramsgate, yesterday. They are Mrs. Lenore Tardif, from Sydney (left), fellow-Australia, Sybil Burns, from Melbourne, and Jean Dixon, of Lincobn
