Jul. 07, 1964 - Dockyard Riggers Splice the Mainbrace as the Re-Rigging of the Victory Nears Completion: The Re-Rigging of Nelson's Victory'at Portsmouth has been almost completed and sixteen civilian Rigger were invited by the captain of the Dockyard, captain J.A. Marrack, to unofficially Splice the Mainbrace today. the work of replacing the old sisel ropes of the victory with Italian hemp, which will last a considerable number of years, was started last October. the major part, involving the main meet, fore mast, bowsprit and Jibboom, has now been finished. to Replace the rigging 34 miles of hemp, 3-tons of spun yarn, 300 yards of old canvas and 224 gallons of tax are needed.
