May 05, 1966 - Star Performance.: Two American research submarines, star ll and star lll were launched simultaneously by the electric beat division of general dynamics. The vehicles will operate at depths of 1, 200 and 2, 000 feet respectively. Each of the subs will be equipped with a mechanical arm and will earry a crew of two. The vessels will be used in General Dynamics own undersea research programme which includes testing and evaluation of submarine components. This is a major development in world underwater advances
