Dec. 12, 1966 - White Christmas For Antarctic Explorers. The Japanese ice-breaker Fuji gets a gala send-off from wives, children and relatives of the crew on sailing from Harumi Pier, Tokyo for the Antarctic on Japan's eighth expedition into the great white continent. The 7, 760-ton Fuji carried a 40-member party of scientists, a crew of 182 officers and men, and five newspapermen to the Showa Base on Angul Island, where two helicopters carried in the ice-breaker will start transporting supplies for the 24 scientists who will remain behind during the winter, and return to Tokyo. The Fuji will make one stop at Freemantle, Australia, and reach the Antarctic base on January 10th
