May 05, 1968 - He Hopes To Make Single-Handed Crossing of Atlantic In Submarine-Shaped Steel Cylinder. 52-year-old Douglas Price, of Temple Cloud, Somerset, pictured whilst aboard his home-made submarine-shaped steel cylinder, Gay Highlander, 26ft, long, during trials at Torbay. The boat, which has passed the Board of Trade Inspection, is powered by a converted lorry engine and is registered at 1.32 tons. Mr. Price hopes to make an Atlantic single-handed crossing by the southern route in June in 40 days
