Nov. 11, 1968 - Commissioning Ceremony of H.M.S. Renown The commissioned ceremony of HMS Renown, the nuclear powered Polaris submarine, took place today at the Birkenhead shipyard of Cammell Laird and Co. (Shipbuilders and Engineers) Ltd. By the middle of 1969 she will join HMS Resolution and HMS Repulse in the operational Polaris force. The first of the Polaris submarines to be built at Cammell Laird's, HMS Renown was launched in February, 1967.
