Sep. 09, 1966 - H.M. Canadian Submarine Okahnagan To Re Launched At Chatham Tomorrow. The third Oberon class submarine on order for the Royal Canadian Navy, Will be launched tomorrow at H.M. Dockyard, Chatham. The submarine will be named Okanagan by Madame Cadieux, wife of the Hon, Leo Cadieux, B.A. Associates Minister of National Defence Canada, and the launch will be attended by representatives of the Canadian and U.K. Governments and Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Navy officers. The Okanagan, and attack type of submarine is fitted to fire homing torpedoes and has the latest detention equipment. She is capable of high underwater speeds and will be able to maintain continuous submerged patrols for long periods in any elimate. A feature in her construction is the extensive use of glass fibre laminate in the superstructure. Today, the setting up ceremony took place. About 150 shipwrights took part in the ceremony, which involves raising the submarine on to the launching way by haering wedges, in union, under the launchingradle.
