May 05, 1970 - The S.S. Great Britain on her way home.: The hulk of the first ocean going screw-driven iron ship, S.S. Great Britain, is now on the 7, 000 mile voyage back home aboard a giant pontoon, to her home part in Bristol. The s.s. Great Britain was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the famous British engineer, and launched in 1843. The hulk was retrieved from her 33-year resting place in the Falkland Islands.
