Mar. 03, 1968 - FIRST CONTAINER SHIP IN JAPAN: The keel of Japan's first lift-on, lift-off container ship was laid down in the Kobe shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, recently. 175 metres long, and 26 meters wide, the ship will have a gross tonnage of about 16, 900 tons and cargo capacity of about 15, 800 tons, and will be completed by the end of August this year.
