Boats - Sailing - Ships

Jun. 06, 1970 - Through the Arctic in a Kajak: The Austrian Klaus Pechstein, famous for his swimming down the Rhine from its source to Rotterdam last autumn, now started a even more intrepid adventure: We wants to cross the Arctic alone in a small kajak-boat! This will take him about five months. With this exploit Pechstein wants to prove that the Nomades had discovered the American continent earlier than the Wikings. Photo shows Pechstein still at home in Linz, Austria testing his small kajak on which he now started for the Arctic
