1967 - Third British Nuclear Fleet Submarine Wars Pite Commissioned: Britain's third nuclear Fleet submarine H.M.S. Warspite, was commissioned for service with the Royal Navy at the Barrow-in-Furness Yard of Messrs. Vickers Limited (Shipbuilding Group), yesterday. The guest of honour at the ceremony was Mrs. Wilson, wife of the Prime Minister. Mrs. Wilson named the submarine a the launch in September 1965. The Warspite, which is of all-British construction, has a length of 285-feet. She is equipped with the latest underwater detection aids and weapons, is fitted with Inertial Navigation System, and her propulsion machinery consists of a pressurised water reactor driving a single-shaft through steam turbines.
