Mar. 03, 1969 - Ship Jammed In Manchester Ship Canal Is Freed: The Manchester Courage, 12, 000-ton, which was on her way to Montreal when she rammed giant look gates in the Manchester Ship Canal at Irlam, Lancashire - only eight miles out of Manchester - was freed yesterday, but still lock-bound until the debris of the shattered gates is cleared. The ship was outward bound with a cargo of 400 containers. Until the lock is repaired other ships will not be able to leave or enter the port of Manchester.
