Feb. 02, 1970 - Gretel II - Australia's Yacht to Challenge for the America's Cup - launched. Australia's third 12 meters yacht to challenge for the America's Cup, Gretel II, was launched at Berry's Bay recently. The new Gretel will be paired against France in a sail off at New Port, Rhode Islands, for the America's Cup. Australia's previous challengers, Gretel and Dame Pattie, were defeated by America in the last two attempts. Gretel II was built in great secrecy by Mr. Bill Barnett for Sir Frank Packer. Photo Shows: Ships hooted their sirens as the floating crane, Falcon, carried Gretel II in a cradle out into the bay and lowers her into the water
