Nov. 11, 1967 - Blaze on carrier H.M.S. Victorious at Portsmouth one sailor dies.: A fire was found early this morning on the Aircraft Carrier H.M.S. Victorious which is in the Portsmouth Dockyard for a refit. It started about 6am this morning in the Chief Petty Officers messdeck. Firemen searching the 30, 530 ton carrier after the seven hour blaze found the body of a crew members. The ship was due to be recommissioned on November 24th. The Victorious, launched on September 1939 is Britain's oldest aircraft carrier. A veteran of wartime convoys to Russia, air actions against Bismark and Tirpitz, and the campaign against the Japanese.
