Dec. 12, 1969 - Europe's First Automatic Buoy: Europe's first automatic buoy, the16 0, 000 84-ton Hawker Siddeley Dynamics Lanby, being handed over to Trinity House at Royal Albert Dock yesterday. Its main light beacon 40-ft above sea level has a luminous range of 16 miles, and its fog signal is audible for more than three miles. After north Sea trials the Lanby will replace the Shambles lightship off Portland Bill
