Jul. 07, 1970 - Brunel's ship S.S. Great Britain arrives in Bristol.: Brunel's iron ship the S.S. Great Britain, arrived in Bristol yesterday, at the end of her tow of 8, 000 miles from the Falkland Islands. More than 100, 000 flag-waving people watched as the covered the eight miles of the winding River Avon from Avonmouth to Bristol Docks, where she was launched 127 years ago. Work on her restoration will start in a fortnight. The SS Great Britain was the world's first ocean going propeller driven iron ship. Photo shows the scene as the S.S.
