Oct. 10, 1970 - THE LONGEST CHARTER TRIP BY HOVERCRAFT. PHOTO SHOWS: Sure, the world's largest hovercraft, arriving at Tower Pier yesterday from Ramsgate on the first leg of her longest charter trip - 222 miles. The 165-ton SR-N4 craft, which normally operates Hoverlloyd's Ramsgate - Calais run, took 200 delegates attending an international mechanical handling conference in London to visit the Port of London's £35-million container port at Tilbury. In the foreground is the anti-submarine frigate Londonderry, 2, 380-tons, which is to be visited by school children during her stay
